"If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent" (essextee)

While doing some research prompted by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I discovered that the Chevy Lumina lived on in the Middle East and Africa... as a rebadged Holden Commodore. That’s right, the VT-VE Commodores were tainted by the name Lumina in various forms including the Ute and SS.
It kinda sorta fits though. Not all Commodores were rip-snortin’ muscle cars, and the plain-jane VTs somewhat continued the way the styling of the proper Lumina had evolved. Like if I knew nothing about the car and you told me it was a third gen Lumina I would accept that . They came in sedan & coupe just like the Lumina to boot.

I like weird country marketing. Like the Chevy Forester for India

So why hasn't anyone rebadged their Chevy SS as a Lumina then?

Now I want to buy one and do exactly that.
There is one near me with plates that say "NOT A BU"

I find it mildly infuriating that GM couldn’t be bothered to come up with a different name for what is arguably an entirely different car (or minivan).

the Chevy SS is a VF Commodore which wasn’t exported to the middle east.

This is the second time this has popped up in the last few days. I think I finally have some inspiration to write post about the weird Subaru rebadges ( Subaru vehicles sold under other makes ) that I’ve been meaning to write for the last few years.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

I think they were trying to start a brand.
GM obviously needed another one.

Man when was the last time you saw one of those Monte carlos? Now that I think about it seems like I see less lum inas vs taurii. I’ll probably see like 10 tomorrow now that I said that.

Ah yes, I took the last picture to be an SS, but it’s the G8 (in US speak)

We (or better still GM) would sell shit to anyone willing to pay. And the Middle Eastern markets the Dunnydoor ended up in (along with Australian made Toyota Camry of the same era) were willing to pay very good money for them for some reason. Toyota in particular sold a lot of cars. Holden (sorry, I meant GM) weren’t so successful due to GM’s never ending inability to properly package a vehicle for markets that the vehicle was not originally designed for . Either way profits must’ve been good...

Now that you mention it... I dunno! Oddly enough, I saw a first-gen Lu mina more recently- just the other day, in fact (ugh, I guess I have to clarify that it was a sedan and not a minivan... thanks GM ).

Lumina was a trim for the Holden
Commodore in Aus for many years as well.

Im rebadging my 2012 caprice ppv with holden statesman badges, if you dont know the statesman and caprice were both the same car just the stateman was the more the v6 commuter, instead of the caprice model that had the v8, and then the capriceV was a more sporty package. I’m going statesman cause, no one will know what that is and mine with have a cammed and tuned 6.0 v8
